Sydney, Friday, midnight. There is little alteration in commercial affairs. The Commercial Bank has declared a dividend, and carried £25,000 to the reserve fund, which is now £425,000. The Government have abandoned their intention to procure an ironclad for purposes of defence. Sydney, Friday. The Suez mail arrived at Adelaide at midnight'. The London dates are to Bth June. There are no New Zealand passengers. An engagement has taken place off the Peruvian Coast between the British war ships Shah and Amethyst and the Hursoo turret-ram. The latter escaped after dark, but was so damaged that she was forced to surrender to the Peruvian squadron. Her crew had joined the revolutionary President, and committed piratical acts on British subjects. A German surgeon from Ardahan reports thij,t, after capturing the fortress, the Russians plundered every house in the town, violated every woman, and set fire to the hospital, burning the wfiunded soldiers alive. ” ■
