[The following telegram was received at the New Zealand Times office at twenty minutes to three o’clock this morning]:—
Bombay, (No date) 12.40 p.m.
It is reported that an alliance has been concluded between Servia and Koumania. The same has been .officially stated at St. Petersburg, and it is further announced that the alliance does not affect the relations of Austria and Russia generally. Sydney, Thursday.
In the Assembly last night the question of the Pacific Mail Service cropped up. Mr* Parkes acknowledged the extremely unsatisfactory position in which the service stood, and thought that a better arrangement might have been made by the late Government. The present Government found they must either let the service drop altogether or adopt a course into which the late Postmaster-General practically forced them. The Government had done all that was possible under the cir.cumstances, but admitted the present arrangement was not at all satisfactory.
