The time-ball may be used to-day for rating chronometers. A chronometer true on Greenwich time would show 12h. SOrain. when the ball drops. Any difference is error, plus or minus, of the chronometer. The brig Albion, according to an announcement in another column, is to be sold at Nelson on the 16th instant-
The ketch Reliance, with a full cargo of sawn kauri timber, arrived in port at 4 a.m. yesterday from Kaipara. She left there on the 2nd inst., and had to thresh down all the way against strong southerly weather. • • , .
The Kangatira had her machinery repaired yesterday, and left at 2 o’clock In the afternoon.
The recent fluctuations, says the Otago Daily Times, in the price of wheat, the. fall in Europe, the rise in this colony, have so disturbed the market as to induce the agents of the ship Wild Deer, loading at Dunedin, to land the wheat, 253 tons, she has shipped for London., and dispose of it in this market, a price having been offered for it which will pay the ship much better than if she took the wheat Home. It will be, of course, understood that the wheat was shipped on ship's account. Discharging it is to be commenced to-day, and if other cargo to make up for it is not forthcoming within a week, the Wild Deer will take; in ballast and sail for London; 1
The barque Malay sailed for Lyttelton yesterday, also the schooner Transit, from Peloros Sound to Oamaru: and the ketch Sarah and Mary, from Hokitika to Lyttelton, which put in here through stress of weather,- left the harbor. The schooner Atlantic for Picton, the ketch Elizabeth for Pelorus Sound, the cutter Dido for Blenheim, the schooner Ruby for Kai-‘ koura, and schooner Hannah Barratt for Pelorus Sound, sailed yesterday. ■j, The Union Company's s.s. Taranaki arrived in port; from the South at noon yesterday. She left Port Chalmers a’t 3.30 p.ra. Saturday last; arrived at Akaroa at 8 a.m. next day; sailed again at D. 30 a.m., and arrived at Lyttelton at 1.30 p.m. Sunday; left again at 7 p.io. on Monday, and arrived here as above. Experienced fresh southerly winds from Port Chalmers to Lyttelton,, thence till arrival moderate northerly breeze. ■ The Taranaki sailed at 2 o’clock this morning for North. The schooner Rose of Eden is now on Meech’s slip receiving an overhaul, and having her hull caulked. The s.s. Napier arrived in harbor at 6 o’clock yesterday afternoon from Foxton, having left there at 8 o'clock same morning. Experienced light southerly winds down. : The Napier will sail for Foxton this afternoon.
The s.s. Kiwi sailed for Castlepoint and Napier at 6 o'clock yesterday evening. The Manawatu was launched from the Patent Slip at 3 o’clock yesterday, after receiving a thorough overhaul. She will sail this afternoon at live o’clock for Wanganui.
