The loss of the cutter Dante between Waikato Heads and Raglan is now certain. Mr. Bradly, the owner of the cutter, searched the beach, and found utensils, spars, candles, and also a bulldog: but could not see traces of the crew. The ketch Kestrel arrived in harbor from Lyttelton at 10 o’clock on Sunday night. She left there at 3 p.m. on Saturday, and had fresh sonth-east wind up. The steamer Stormbird sailed for Wanganui at 5 p.m. yesterday. The Rangatira left for Napier at 6 p,m., and the Tui sailed for Foxton at 6.30 p.m. The departure of the steamer Kiwi, for Castlepolnt and Napier, has been postponed till this afternoon. The steamer Taranaki, from the South, will arrive here this morning. She goes North to-day. The p.s. Manawatu went round to the Patent Slip yesterday morning, and was taken up at 1 o’clock yesterday afternoon to have her bottom cleaned and painted. The schooners Transit, Saucy Lass, Waihopai, Atlantic, and Hannah Barratt, also the ketches Elizabeth and Sarah and Mary and the cutter Dido are still at anchor in port awaiting a fair breeze. The steamer St. Kilda got away for Lyttelton, Timaru, and Dunedin at 7.30 a.m. yesterday. The steamship Wakatipu sailed for Lyttelton and Port Chalmers at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon. It will be seen by advertisement in another column that the brig Albion is to be sold by auction at Nelson on Monday next. The steamer Rangatira. which left here for Napier at 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon, had to put back to harbor at midnight owing to another accident to her machinery. It appears that on arriving off Taurakari Heads one of the eccentrics broke. Fortunately the weather was quite calm, and after two hours’ hard ■work the engineers succeeded in disconnecting one of the cylinders, and with the other one the steamer managed to make the harbor. It is expected she will he repaired and fit to leave again this afternoon.
