The regular- monthly meeting of the committee of the Chamber of Commerce will be held on Wednesday next at 3 o’clock p.m. The man'Nichols, who was arrested on Sunday night on a charge of having stolen from a house m Maori-row one watch and a purse* with some coin, was brought up at the Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday, and evidence having been taken, ho was committed to take his trial at the Supreme Court. A meeting of the Board of College Governors was to have been held at the Education Board offices yesterday at noon, hut at that hour and for a long time afterwords noue of the members, save the Rev. One of the witnesses in a case of larceny against a man named Keane was absent when called upon yesterday to give evidence as to the discovery of a purse containing stolen money. It appeared that Mauritz Leitson (the witness referred to) was bound over to appear at the Supreme Court, but being_a sailor, and having no money to keep him in Wellington, he departed for Sydney in the vessel to which he belonged. His Honor ordered him to be called, and he was called accordingly, but did not answer his recognizances. If Mauritz is a wise man he will keep away from Wellington.

We remind creditors in the estate of James O’Shea of the meeting to be held this afternoon at the Chamber of Commerce. The many believers in the homoeopathic system of treatment iu Wellington will be glad to see that we have at last among ua a duly qualified medical man who practices that system. We refer to Dr. Wanless, whose card appears in another column. The capital is to be £1,000,000 in 100,000 shares of £lO each. The prospectus sets forth the excellent security afforded by mortgages of real property in British colonies, and refers in high terms to the property of New Zealand. After quoting figures to show the great success of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, New Zealand Trust and_Loan Company, and three or four kindred societies, the directors say they are justified on these results, and on the growing property of the colony,, iu the confidence they feel that there is au ample field for tlie success of the operations which they propose to conduct. These operations are stated to be to invest and lend money, to acquire and establish agencies, and commercial and financial business of every kind. These excellent artists are well, known and esteemed throughout the Australian colonies and New Zealand. Mr. Tavares has been managing the Brisbane Theatre for the last five years ; aud in fact, is the pioneer of theatricals iu that city, and we understand is still lessee of the theatre there, and is now on a visit to New Zealand to give his wife (who has lately been very ill) the benefit of a change of The repertoire of these artists embrace some of the higheat-elass comedies aud dramas, and we hope that they will meet with success here. ,
