THE NEW CORPORATION OFFICES.

In accordance with the instructions of the Public Works Committee of the Corporation, Mr. Thomas Turubull, of 'temple Chambers, is busily engaged in preparing plans for the new Corporation offices. It will be remembered that Mr. Turnbull furnished the prize design for the proposed Town Hall; and though the project of erecting such a building immediately has been put aside, it was thought it would be very desirable if matters could be so arranged that the offices urgently needed, and which it had been decided to erect at once,, should be so constructed they would form part of the projected Town Hall buildings. Mr. Ttiriibull has given full effect to this wish, and he purposes erecting the office wing of the new Town Hall, as set out in his original design, with such modifications as will prevent it from bearing au unsightly or unfinished appearance. The corner of Featherston and Btandon streets will be built upon, the entrance beiugfrom the latter street, and there will be two storeys, On the ground floor there are to be vestibule, public office (22 x 29), with town clerk's room behind, of rather smaller dimensions. Then, at the rear of the town clerk's room, and in connection with it, lies the Council Chamber,. 36ft. 6in. by 19ft. 6in. The public access to the chamber is by a corridor from the Brandon-street entrance. In the second storey there is a fine room, 55ft. by 16ft., for the accommodation of the city engineer and his staff, and there are likewise three other offices of various sizes, iutended, we presume, for the use of the inspector of nuisauces, rate collector, accouutant, and other officers. The materials to be used will be brick and concrete. Tenders are to be invited shortly,, and no doubt the work will soon be commenced.
