London, June 25.
Bayazid has been retaken by the Turks, St. John’s (New Brunswick) has been almost totally destroyed by fire. The damage caused is estimated at about fifteen millions of dollars. The French Senate has adopted the proposal for dissolution. Singapore, June 25, 12.13 p.m.
The British Cabinet in Council, it is said, have resolved to ask for the sanction of the House of Commons to obtain credit, in order to provide for paying the expenses of cautionary preparations in view of war. The Russians are crossing the Danube at Galatz, and the Turks, under the walls of Matchin, are retreating.
A further despatch from Prince Gortchakoff states that Russia does not intend to acquire Stamhoul.
Sydney, Monday, miduight. The ship Sierra Nevada has arrived from New York with immigrants. London, June 23.
A despatch from Gortchakoff promises to respect British interests, and states further : “So long as England remains neutral, Russia will not interfere with Egypt or the Suez Canal, nor extend the war elsewhere, necessity not requiring her to go beyond Stamboul. With a view to the future, and for the protection of the common interests which may belong to the European Powers, those Powers should act in concert, and settle the question as to the passage of the Dardanelles and Bosphorus on an equitable basis.” The despatch adds that the Tsar has resolved to obtain a guarantee for the security of the Christians in the Turkish Provinces.

Wheat is still declining, large imports of finer qualities rendering the market weaker. New Zealand flax is lower.
