The import trade of the past week has been without the slightest animation, and although prices cannot be said to have given way, there is a lack of spirit that checks all business transactions. The auction sales may to some extent be credited with being the cause of this, as, while produce is consigned to parties here for sale by auction at highest obtainable figure, buyers would rather trust to the chance of lower prices than purchase privately. The arrival of the Wennington from London adds to our already overstocked market. At the sale of O'Shea's atoclc by auction there was a good attendance, and favorable prices were obtained.
