An absurd rumor recently gained some credence in Paris to the effect that an attempt was about to be made to restore the Empire. The story seems to have had its origin in Marseilles, where the officials were thrown into a state of excitement by the report that the youthful Prince Imperial was lurking in disguise in the Republican city. It is needless to say that the efforts made to catch the intriguer were unavailing. hirangers paying a visit to Wellington, am! country settlers arriving in town, are very often at ft loss to : know which is the best house or chcapestfgeneral 1 drapery establishment to visit for buying drapery and clothing. J. McDowell and Co. offer special advantages that can be met with nowhere else in the city. They keep at all times the largest and best assorted stock of every class of goods, imported direct from the leading manufacturers of Great Britain and Ireland, which, being bought on the most advantageous terms, enables them to offer goods of sterling qualities at prices that cannot be improved on by any house in the trade. Every article is marked at a fixed price that cannot be deviated from, for ready money, from which there is no deviation ; so that inexperienced people are as well served as the best judges; the terms being net cash, without rebate or abatement of any kind. A full description of stock can be obtained from our catalogues and advertisement. The following testimonials are given by way of example of the very many received by the proprietor of GHOLLAH'S GUKAT INDIAN CURES from all parts of New Zealand, and will satisfy thodiseerning inhabitants of Wellington of the extraordinary curative powers of these valuable INDIAN MEDICINES. Sold by all chemists ami respectable medicine vendors throughout New Zealand :—“ Dunedin, 31st August, 1870. Sir, —Having taken your Ghollah’s Rheumatic Mixture for some considerable time, and having been completely cured by its use of the very severe rheumatic gout from which I had suffered most severely for the last ten years, I can beer testimony to its extraordinary curative powers, lam now free from all pain, and well in my health, and have the free use of my hands and feet, which I had not previous to taking . your medicine. I think it right to state, for the ! benefit of others suffering the tortures that I endured for the period above stated, that I attribute my restoration to health and freedom from pain entirely to the use of your invaluable medicine. I can strongly recommend it to those suffering from rheumatism or gout. (Signed) John Gkiffen, J.lV' “Christchurch, 21st April, 1877. The Proprietor of Ghollah’s Great Indian Cures: Sir, —I have much pleasure in stating that I derived so great a benefit by the use of your Gout Mixture that 1 feel it my duty to add my testimonial to the many already published. I had been suffering from gout in my feet and hands for about sixteen years; but by taking two bottles of your Gout Mixture, I have lost all pain or trace of the gouty symptoms. My appetite is good and my general health much improved. I can recommend your Indian Medicines strongly to others. —(Signed) George Lummis.’ ’ —[ Advt.]
