Auckland, Thursday. An adjourned meeting of Masons will be held to-night respecting the formation of a Scotch Grand Lodge, with Mr. Whitaker as Grand Master. Delegates are here from Wellington, Wanganui, Taranaki, Patea, Thames, and Auckland. Kinking commenced in the Choral Hall last evening. At the ninth annual meeting of the Moanataiari Company there was a large attendance to-day. The report showed that 10,770 tons were crushed during the year, which yielded 33,1250z5., realising £85,974. At the end of the previous year the company owed the bank and other creditors £5588. The indebtedness has been paid off, and a sum of £53,940 distributed in dividends, while a further sum of £4OOO has been invested as a reserve fund, leaving a balance in hand of £6BIB. The net profit for the year's transactions was somewhat over £65,000. The tribute showed for the year £7S7. The report was adopted, and £25(1 voted for the directors. Tacpo, Thursday. The mail coach from Tauranga to Napier broke down between Tauranga and Ohinemutu in consequence of bad roads. The mail arrived here one day late. It left for Napier at 3 p.m. to-day. The weather is very uusettled. The Lake has risen 3ft., and is still rising. Gkah.uistown, Thursday. The Rev. Mr. Hill, who is leaving for Lytteltou, has been entertained at a banquet by the members of the Masonic lodges, and a valuable Past Master's jewel was presented to him by the Sir Walter Scott Lodge, of which Mr. Hill was R.W.M. for two years. A public subscription for a testimonial is being raised. Mastektox, Thursday. Carrick, editor of the Sacs, was assaulted to-day in the Club Hotel, in the presence of a large number of settlers, by a local auctioneer, for calliug him a liar. Haweka, Thursday. Mr. Wakefield, M.H.R. for Geraldine, addressed his constituents last night at Tcmuka. He was very well received, and after a long and excited meeting, a cordial vote of thanks to Idm was carried unanimously. Chuistchcrch, Thursday. At a meeting of the Canterbury College it was resolved that the art exhibition in connection with the opening of the new Museum building should be open on Sundays and week days. Christchurch bakers have raised the price of bread to 9d. the 41b. loaf. Dunedin, Thursday. The Dunedin Horticultural Society is about to cease, in consequence of the falling off of members and a want of public support. It was lesolved at a meeting of the Educs---* tion Board yesterday that for students in training at the University classes the professors' certificate of being classed in English, Latin, and mathematics should be accepted in lieu of the inspector's examination in these subjects.
