SHIPWRECKS AND LOSS OF LIFE.
Adelaide, May 17.
A telegram from Cape Borda says that the brig Emily Smith, from King George’s Sound to Adelaide, was wrecked last Tuesday near West May, and twenty-one persons were drowned. .Four Chinamen and a woman were saved. Throe of the men arrived at a station ; the other man and the woman are endeavoring to make their way to Capo Borda, but are in an exhausted condition. The vessel went to pieces five minutes after it struck. There were also on board five children belonging to passengers, with the captain, his wife, and four children. The cargo consisted of sheepskins and timber. The vessel had been fifteen days out when she struck.
The barque Hadda, 316 tons, from the Lace* pede Islands bound to TVeemautle, was wrecked on the eastern group of Abrolhos on April 30. All hands were saved.
