STREET NOMENCLATURE.
TO THE EDITOB OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sin, —I concur with " Honor to Whom, &o." in his suggestion that the name of " Lambtonquay " should be altered, and indeed I should go much farther, and recommend the re. naming of many other streets. But why Lambton-quay (should be called Gladstonestreet or Stafford-street I do not see at all. " The People's William" has not done anything particular for us that I am aware of, and there appears to be no reason for associatipg his name with this city. As for the people's " Edward AVilliam," there may possibly be more reason in that, except that it would be continuing a bad precedent in naming streets after loial people, instead of following up the historical connection with the great man after whom this settlement was called. I have always felt surprise that the principal street in Wellington had not received the name of " Waterloo," and I think now that that name should be given to the continuous line of road from the Princess Hotel (Thorndon) to the end of Upper Willis-street (Te Aro.) , Then perhaps in the course of time the •" Old Identities " might consent to have their names ex. punged from all the streets about the re. claimed land, and replace them by the names of the Duke of Wellington's battles and generals.—l am, &c, OLivim Wakefield, Wellington, May 8.
