WASTE LANDS BOARD.
The Waste Lands - Board met yesterday morning in the Provincial Buildings. Present : Mr. Holdsworth (chairman), Mr. Bunny, and Mr. Walter Johnston. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A discussion arose on the subject of Mr. Hastwell's application to the Government for certain laud for building purposes and paddocks in the Wairarapa. Mr. Bunny objected to the delay which had arisen in submitting the letter to the Board, in whom such matters were properly vested. He moved, therefore, that in the opinion of the Board the letter of application, dated the 24th April, should have been at once forwarded by the Public Works Department to the Chairman of the Waste Lands Board, for the purpose of enabling him to lay it before the Board, whose province it was to deal with it, and that in future all communications received by the Commissioner of Crown Lands relating to the disposal of Crown Lands should be laid before the Board at its next meeting. The motion was seconded by Mr. Johnston, and carried. It was also resolved that certain landjmould be considered pastoral land, so that it might be disposed of. _ With regard to the application of Mr. Preuderville, which came before the previous meeting of the Board, a report from Mr. Commissioner Lewis was received. It was unfavorable to the application, and the Board resolved to refer it back to the Commissioner, to the end that he might inform Mr. Prenderville of the decision arrived at. j The Board then adjourned.
