NOTES ON FOOTBALL.

/The Wellington football players have let a good deal of valuable, time go by ; but this it is to be supposed is a natural result of the unusually fine" weather "that had prevailed up to the commencement of the month. However, the biting winds and rough weather of the past week will soon make themselves felt, and we may expect very shortly to see the game in full swing here; ' The advent of a second club should lead to a little "rivalry and better play. The Auckland club held its annual meeting last week, ; when it was*, reported- that the number of matches played 1 last' season were few, owing! to frequency of bad weather and the several'days taken up in practice for interprovincial and other" importaht matches. In all five club matches were played, viz. :—l. Auckland/.Fdotball Club v.. 1 North: ; Shore, which was drawn, with four forces a side. 2. Auckland- Foothill Club v. " Barnell Football Club. Won by one goal and 1 try to nothing.3. Auckland Football Oliib v. Ponsouby (12 vi -' 14). Drawn-, in: favor of " Ponsohby Football Club, by 2-tries to nothing.: UDitto, return 1 (14 to 15). Drawn in-favor of Auckland Football Club, by 2 tries toi nothing. 5. Auckland Football Club.y.: Grafton Football Club. ■ Woli by Auckland" Football Club, by 1 goal and 5 tries to fibtHingi ,*" The, two goals* were obtained by Messrs. Mowbray (from a punt-out by Woon, in'the Grafton match), and Gudgeon (per kick, Parnell match). Eight tries scored,! as follows: —By Messrs. T. Henderson, 2 ; H. riiilnon, 2 ; Woon, 1 ; Ring, 1 ; Carter,. 1 ; and Furchas 1. All these tries were missed by—Caverhill, 4 ; G. Henderson, 1 ;l Woon, 1 ; and two . punts-out missed catch. The club members took part in other matches' during the . season, viz.:—l. Auckland and North Shore Clubs v. the Naval Squadron. ’ Drawn. in favor of landsmen by X try (Nolan). 2. New Zealand v. World. Won’ by New Zealanders by X goal (Caversham, from mark). 3. Interprovinoial Team v. All-comers. Won by former by 1 try (Woon). 4. Thames Team v. All-comers. Won by first-named by 2 tries (Woon and substitute)" to nothing! , s.. Auckland v. Canterbury. 6. Auckland v. Waikato, f The Wellington club does not seem to con- - duct/ its Affairs' with so much order as the Auckland Club. No one here ever, heard of a • report giving such details as those mentioned above. As it is intended that a meeting of delegates of the various clubs in Auckland take place at an early date for the consideration of matters pertaining to the game; Mr. Thomas Henderson was elected as the club’s delegate, and that he should bring under the notice of other delegates the following eugges’tiohs : That, in the event of a member belonging to more than one club, and those clubs of which he is a member contend against each other, he shall declare at tho commencement of the season for which club he desires to play. 'That' scoring by points he adopted, and that a “try” count 2, a “goal” 5, and none allowed for a “ force-down.” A letter was read from Mr.Uobinson, of the Thames Football Club, suggesting that players in any future interprovincial match should be distinguished by some badge, as worn in all the international matches in other countries. Tho badge should be either the fern leaf, the moa, the kiwi, or the wonderful seal of Eden, attached to the bosom of the jersey. .

The Dunedin club is hard at work practising, and it is thought there will be no difficulty in choosing a good team to come North this year. A general meeting of the members of the Wairarapa Football Club, says the Standard, was held on Saturday evening at Hammerioh’s Hotel, Mr. Cleland in the chair. The follow-
