FOXTON.
(from our own correspondent.) There is not much to chronicle, but I suppose I must send you something. So many children are ill with measles and complicated chicken-pox that the local committee have at the request of the doctors closed the schools for a few days.—lf Mr. Passmore does not soon order the engines on our lines to be fitted with cow-catchers, or something that will throw the cattle olf the line, there may possibly be an accident. Cattle select the space between tho rails for lying down, and consequently an unfortunate cow or bullock sometimes comes to grief. The County Council meets on Wednesday next, when it is more than probable that the proposed separation of the Manchester and Kiwitea ridings will be discussed ; if possible any resolutions of importance shall be sent by wire.—Great indignation is felt here at a leading article in tho Manawatu Times, in which tho conduct of the coroner and jury who investigated the late gun accident is strongly commented on in a manner akin to that usually adopted by a class called sea-lawyers. Of this, that is, of the article in question, you will probably hear more. For my own part, I can hardly trust myself to give the writer of it my opinion of him.
