BANKRUPTCY COURT.
Friday, April 13. (Before his Honor Mr. Justice Richmond.) The Court sat at 11 a.m. IN RE HENRY BENNETT, A BANKRUPT. Mr. Bell applied to the Court, under the 184th section of the Act, for a certificate of discharge, on account of there having been no meeting of the creditors. All the necessary steps had been taken to entitle bankrupt to his discharge, except this, that he had omitted to file in the Court, within four days after the filing of his declaration of inability to pay his debts, a statement showing the names, residences, and occupations of his creditors, and the amounts due to them, as required by the 27th section. The statement had only been filed the previous day (Thursday), and the omission was explained by an affidavit duly filed by bankrupt, which set out that the statement had been duly prepared, but had remained in the possession of Ml. Carroll, the trustee appointed by the creditors. The fact was, Mr. Bell said, the creditors had held one meeting, and had decided that they would have no proceedings in the Bankruptcy Court, if they could help it, and had not met again. The trustee was present, and offered no opposition. Bankrupt was then sworn, and stated that his assets’were £3592 Bs. 9d., and liabilities £4675 Bs. lid., of which £2705 were secured. The assets were likely to be realised. The Judge granted the certificate as prayed.
