S., long. 171 W-, at 6.30 p.m. The sea washed over the poop, carrying away the binnacle, skylight, poop ladder, hencoops, and everything movable. The stern windows were beat in, and filled the cabin and main deck up to the rail. The wheel was washed away, carrying two men with it; one named Frank Horkler, a Russian Kinn, was drowned, and the second man washed on board. Captain Louttit was washed overboard, and saved by his coat catching in the main-brace bumpkin ; bis left collarbone and ribs were broken. The gale moderated on March 27. The ship bore op for Otago, and arrived off the Heads on the 6th inst, but was driven off by aS. W. gale. Made land again yesterday, and towed in this afternoon. Dr. Drysdale reports Captain Louttit In a fair way of recovery. The ship strained tremendously. Sailed ; Taranaki, s.s., for the North. Passenger for Wellington—Mr. Slater.

The schooner Ynung Dick arrived at Timaru from Bobarton on Tuesday last. The schooner Star of the Sea, from Havelock, arrived here yesterday morning. The s.s. The steamers Manawatu and Stormbird are expected to sail for “Wanganui to-day. A barque was signalled from the North yesterday. She will probably be either the Pleiades from Newcastle, or the Ferona from Western Australia,

The topsail schooners Kaiuma and Marmion, from Kaipara, with timber, arrived here yesterday morning. They both left that port on Friday last, and on Saturday and Sunday experienced the strong S.W. gale. The ketch Falcon arrived from Blenheim yesterday at 10 a.in. She left there on Sunday afternoon. She will sail for Blenheim to-day. Messrs. McMeckan, Blackwood, and Co.’s s.s. Ringaroorna, Captain Whitburn, arrived here from Melbourne via the South, with the inward Suez mail, at noon yesterday. She left the Sandridge Railway Pier on the 3rd inst. at 2.30 p.m.; cleared the Heads at 630p.m.. and Swan Island on the 4th at 2.45 p.m. Experienced fresh westerly winds, with high sea, to within 300 miles of New Zealand ; thence fresh southwest gales, with heavy squalls and high sea, till arrival at Bluff at 3 p.rn. on the Bth.- Left same day at 5 p.rn., and arrived at Port Chalmers at 7 a.m. on the 9th; sailed same day at 4 p.m.. and arrived in Lyttelton on the 10th at 0,30 a.m. : left at 4.30 p.m., and arrived here as above. Experienced strong southerly winds from the Bluff to Lyttelton; thence light variable winds to Cape Campbell, where a strong northerly gale was encountered. The Ringarooma was to sail for Nelson at 5 o’clock this morning. The brig Robin Hood, Captain Baton, from Newcastle. arrived in port yesterday at noon. Her passage has occupied 14 days. She experienced strong easterly winds for the first three days after leaving Newcastle; thence till making the Straiten Saturday last variable winds. On Saturday night encountered a strong S.W. gale, with very thick weather, and Captain Paton not having seen the land since he left Newcastle, hove-10. lie reckoned his position to be near Stephen’s Island, and took soundings, finding 3!) fathoms. 'Next morning the weather cleared up, and the brig was found to be only a few miles off Stephens Island. Since then had variable winds, and on Monday night last opened up Pencanow light; but the wind being very light from theS.E.. shedrifted back, and had nearly a calm till 2 o clock yesterday morning, when a strong windfrom the N.W, came up, with which she fetched up to the f leads, andbeat into port, arriving as above. The ship Northampton was close to the Heads on Tuesday night, but when the N.W. wind came up she stood off, and was some considerable distance away from the Heads at daylight yesterday. The pilot had not boarded her when the Robin Hood came in, nor was It likely he would do so during the day, as a strong NW. wind was blowing. The Ringarooma also passed her at 10,30 a.m,, under easy canvas, about 18 miles south of Sinclair Head. She did not reach port when we went to press this morning, but will no doubt get in during the day. The Newcastle Herald says;—The smartest passage on record from this port to Wellington and back has just been completed by Captain Paton in the brig Robin Hood. The vessel sailed hence on the 20th February, and returned on the evening of the 21st; the run round being thus made in twenty-three days. This includes delay In discharging cargo and taking in ballast. On the passage from Wellington the brig sailed on Saturday, the 10th ult., and lay becalmed outside the harbor for three days. Passed through the Strait on the Mtli, and experienced S.E. to N.B. winds across.
