KARORI-MAKARA HIGHWAY BOARD.

Satukday, Apkix- 7. Present—Messrs. Charles C. Graham (chairman), Bowler, Page, Cook, and Wright. A letter was received from the Town Clerk of Wellington in re Evans Bay road, and a circular from the Registrar-General asking for statistics. The Clerk was instructed to fill in the same from data in possession of the Board. Consent was given to the rehearing of the appeal from the Patent Slip Company, their non-appearance at the Appeal Court on the 31st having arisen from a mistake for which they were not responsible. The appeal to be heard on Thursday, 12th inst. A letter was received from the Treasury, with a cheque for £9l 18s. 9d., quarter’s subsidy to 31st December, 1876; also stating no subsidy for the quarter ending September, 1876, had been voted by Parliament. A letter was' read from the Clerk of the Hutt County Council, stating that all roads within the County had been declared county roads.

A letter was also read from the Rev. Mr. Ballachey, complaining of certain trees overhanging the road as likely to be dangerous. The attention of Ihe contractor was ordered to be called to the same. C. Goodman’s contract for the culvert at Botanical Gardens’ gate for £BO 11s. 4d. was accepted. Elijah Short’s contract for maintenance of Evans Bay road for £7B was accepted, subject to a satisfactory, arrangement being made with the Corporation of Wellington for a grant in aid.

In reply to an application from Mr. J. C. Crawford, the Board agreed to contribute onehalf the cost, not exceeding £2O, towards the repair of the existing road leading to the Pilot Station, the work to be done to the satisfaction of the Board, and the money to be paid on the production of properly attested vouchers. The Board agreed to contribute on the samo terms towards the road leading to Messrs. Suisted’s and Donald's.

Sundry accounts were passed for payment. The Board then rose.
