Electoral Notices J rO THE BURGESSES OF THE WARD OFTEARO. LADIES & GENTLEMEN,—L offer myilf as a Candidate to represent your Ward in le City Council, to fill the vacancy caused by le retirement of Mr. P. Moeller. My unions on Municipal matters are so well nown that it is needless to issue a long adress.. I am in favar of a Town Hall, but link it better to wait a few years, and then ■ect on the Market Reserve a Hall and [arket worthy of the city, costing it may be 40,000 or £50,000. The site in Featherston;reet could be sold, and the proceeds expended a the streets and footpaths. I am also in favor of Mr. Climie’s Drainage cheme, and should vote for its immediate tecution, making it compulsory for all proerties to be connected with the sewers. I lould advocate the appointment of an Inlector of Weights, Measures, and Gas leters, whose duty it also should be to test re quality of the gas supplied. Also the apointment of another rate collector, making it ompulsory on them to call on the rateayers tor payment of the ratepayers. Having plenty of time on my hands, I should o my best to make Wellington what it ought I > be—the cleanest and healthiest city in the r orld. As you must by this time be pretty well ited with electioneering, I shall call no meetigs, but leave it to you at the ballot-box. I am, Ladies and Gentlemen, Yours obediently, C. MOODY. SIR, —We, the undersigned ratepayers of jambtonWard, respectfully request that you will illow yourself to be nominated as a candidate ;o fill the vacancy in the City Council caused jy the retirement of Mr. Joe Dranafield. In he event of the election being contested, we fledge ourselves to use our utmost endeavors ;o secure your return. We have to honor to be, sir, Yours faithfully, f. Mountain Edward McDonald Chos. K. Laing, C. J. Toxward, C. McKirdy, and 20 others. GENTLEMEN, —I shall be much pleased to accede to your request to be nominated as a, candidate for Lambton Ward, and thank you for the confidence it implies. For the first time in Wellington I have now ample time to devote to the duties of the office, and will, if sleeted, do my best tor your interests. I think that the Town Hall project may be now hung up till we can afford to put up a building of brick or stone, without trenching on money wanted more urgently for useful works, such as street-making. While considering drainage all-important, I would object strongly to committing the ratepayers to any scheme without Brst securing the professional opinion of disinterested experts that the plan was likely to be efficient, economical, and the best to be followed under the circumstances. I do not think this has been done yet with respect to the scheme at present under consideration. Hoping to see Wellington the seaport for the seaboard of half of New Zealand—North and South —I would endeavor to minimise the expense of receiving and delivering goods in this port. I should be glad to hold out every inducement for the erection of brick party walls throughout the town in case of fire, and to encourage the erection of more substantial buildings. I think that we should endeavor to make Wellington more comfortable to the members of the Legislature, whose presence here annually, at great personal sacrifice, loes incalculable good. I would endeavor to out the magnificent public reserves we_ possess :o more popular use, and resist the alienation >f them, either permanently or for an unrealonable time, as I am convinced that they will loon become essential to the health of a city ■apidly increasing in population. J. A. ALLAN. JIO JOHN PLIMMER, ESQ. DEAR SIR, —We, the undersigned Rate: >ayers, of Wellington, request that you will dlow yourself to be Nominated to represent jambton Ward, in the place of J. The requisition you have sent to ie is the beat proof that you consider I did: ly duty when I served the city on the Board f Works and in the Municipal Council The equisition signed by so many respectable itizens and firms is indeed enough to enoourge me to allow myself l to be put in nomina-, ion for Lambton Ward and if the citizens hoose to elect me, I will endeavor to serve , hem faithfully.; I will not hold any meeting, or give any promises ; but as each subject omes before me, I will give it my .careful onsideration, and either support or reject it a I think is best for the interest of- the city.
