CRICKET.
PORIRUA T. TAWA FLAT. A cricket match took place at Porirua on Good Friday besween the Porirua and Tawa Plat cricket clubs. Play was to have commenced at 10 o’clock, but owing to the damp state of the morning it was nearly 12 when the wickets were pitched. The Porirua team went first to the wickets. Mr. Taylor acted as umpire for Tawa Flat, and Mr. Anderson for Porirua. SEW ZEALAND TIMES. A match was played in Mr. J. Martin’s paddock on Saturday between a team chosen from the literary and commercial departments, and another eleven chosen from the mechanical department. Bryce acted as captain for the former, and Nation for the latter, who went to the wickets first, and were disposed of for 40. Of this number only 25 were for extras ! the ground being so bumpy that it was impossible to long-stop McKenzie’s fast bowling. The literary and commercial men then went in and scored 79, Bryce , making 24, Perrier 17, and Crombie 13. The mechanical team in their second innings made but 30, thus leaving their opponents the victors by 8 runs and an innings. RISING STAR V. UNITED CLUB. A cricket match was played on Good Friday morning in Mrs. Leitch’s paddock between the Rising Star and United cricket clubs. The scores were :—United C.G., first innings, 25 ; second innings, 49; total, 74, Rising Stars, first innings, 01 ; second innings, one wicket for 14 runs—the latter club thus winning with nine wickets to go down. The only double figures were for the R.S.C.C., Godber 19 and Kibblewbito 13; for the U.C.C., Nation 17.
