Auckland, Monday, i Emmett and De Lias have entered an action for £2OOO damages against the owners of the Jane Douglas, which they specially chartered to convey them to Auckland, in time for Emmett to catch the City of New York, to fulfill a starring engagement in America. The steamer took horses on board, and in consequence of insufficient water on the bar put back. Again attempted bar, but put back" owing to gale. The point involved is whether, being specially chartered, her owners had a right to ship horses. There is a heavy flood in the Mongonui district. Hundreds of sheep have been drowned, pigs swept out to sea, and fences and bridges destroyed. William Addey was chaiged to-day by his wife, a schoolmistress, with using threatening language towards her. The evidence disclosed habitual drunkenness, with prolonged cruelty. Defendant was ordered to find sureties, himself in £2OO, and two of £IOO each, to keep the peace tor twelve months. Helbnsvxllb, Monday.

He says the patient has no tattoo marks on his arm, and his ears are not pierced as Orton’s were) according to Onslow’s showing. Much alarm has been caused by a case of small-pox at Wallgett, the sufferer being covered with variola from head to foot. Melbourne, March 15.
