WAIRARAPA DISTRICT AGRICULTURAL OPERATIONS.
T»»e News has collected the following agricultural statistics since the date of last report ; Messrs. Beetham, of Brancepeth, return 40 acres as having been broken up this season. Of these, 10 acres have been cropped with hay, which yielded two tons per acre. One acre is under potatoes, estimated to yield five tons ; and 20 acres under other crops, which our informant was unable to enumerate. lu addition to these there is the extensive area of 30,000 acres in grass. Mr. James Gilligan, of Abbotsford, has about 20 acres broken up, five being in hay, which is estimated to yield a total of 15 tons, and 1 in potatoes estimated to give 5 tons. The remainder of the land, viz., 2040 acres, is in grass. Mr. E. Meredith, jun., of Eiversdale, returns 3 acres in grain, estimated to yield 20 bushels per acre ; 2 in hay, estimated to yield 1J tons per acre ; 1 in potatoes, estimated to yield 5 tons. The extent of country in grass is given at 600 acres. Mr. J. Rutherfurd, Moroa, returns 10 acres as being brokeu up; 1 acre being in oats, which is estimated to yield 31 bushels ; 2 in hay, estimated to give 3 tons ; 1 iu potatoes, estimated to give 5 tons, and 150 acres in grass. Mr. E. Chamberlain, of the Upper Plain, returns 12 acres in wheat, estimated to yield •400 bushels ; 1007 in oats ; half an acre in potatoes, estimated to yield 14 tons, and 50 acres in grass. Mr. Walter Morrison, of Manaia, returns 80 acres in wheat, estimated to yield 900 bushels; 103 acres in oats ; 10 acres in hay, estimated to yield one ton per acre ; and 200 acres in grass.. Mr. A. Cockburn, of Manaia, returns 1300 acres brokeu up ; 35 acres being in wheat, ■ estimated to yield 1060 bushels; 1251 acres in oats; 5 acres in hay, estimated to yield 5 tons; and 1200 acres in grass. Mr, A. Mutrie, of Manaia, returns 20 acres broken up; 2 acres in hay, estimated to yield 2 tons; and 100 acres in grass. Mr. J, W. Mace, of Brammerton. returns 3 acres in hay, the estimated yield being 6 tons; 1 in potatoes, estimated to yield 4 tons; and 1500 acres in grass. . Mr. G. McKay, of Te Ore Ore, returns 24 acres in wheat, estimated to yield 800 bushels; 14 acres in oats, estimated to yield 600 bushels; 3 in barley, estimated to yield 90 bushels; and 140 acres in grass. Mr. A. vV. Cave, of Te Ore Ore, returns 40 acres in wheat, estimated to yield 1200 bushels ; 25 in oats, estimated to yield 1000 bushels ; 0 in hay, estimated to yield 8 tons ; and 380 in grass. Mr. H. J. Percy, of Te Ore Ore, returns 35 acres in wheat, estimated to yield 1300 bushels ; 63 in oats, estimated to yield 4000 bushels ; 1 in potatoes, estimated to yield 5 tons ; and 200 acres in grass. Mr. Jos. Bennett, of Otahuao, returns 1 acre of hay, estimated to yield 3 tons; and 1500 acres in grass. Mr. William Lowes, of Te Ore Ore, returns 16 acres, in wheat, estimated to yield 480 bushels ; 45 in oats, estimated to yield 3200 bushels ; and 800 acres of grass land. Mr. T. E. Chamberlain, of the Upper Plain, returns 16 acres in wheat, estimated to yield 600 bushels ; 18 in oats, estimated to yield 700 bushels ; 2 in hay, estimated to yield llj tons ; and 170 acres in grass. -
