(PEK PRESS AGENCY.) New Plymouth, Saturday. The following are tke acceptances for the Taranaki Jockey Club Handicap :—Opawa, May Moon, Elsa, Flora, Resolution, Bedouin, Sir Walter, Ada, Bide a Wee, Firetail, and Monarch. Hurdle Race Perfume, Gazelle, Medora, and Shaughraun. Taupo, Saturday. The Native Minister has announced his intention to meet the Queen and King natives here with Rewi on the 20th instant. Rewi and Major Mair come together from Waikato, Dr. Pollen will travel via Tauranga from Auckland. Amongst the important subjects to be brought before the Native Minister will be the opening of the trunk line of road through to Cambridge, so long successfully opposed by the King party. Rewi, It is;said, still bitterly opposes the opening up of this last link in the communication between north and'south. After an interval of nearly four years the Native Lands Court is again to be opened in this district. Natives generally are greatly pleased at this action of Government, and hope soon to receive their rentals accruing during the past three or four years, and to have Europeans settled on the country leased to Government in 1873.
Nelson, Saturday. This morning Mr. Gisborne proposed that the sittings of the University Senate be open to the public. Mr. Carleton moved to pass on to the next order of the day. A division was taken. For the amendment—members present, Mr. Carleton, Rev. Johnston, Rev. Buddie. Against—members present, Messrs. Gisborne, Grace, Heale, Rev. Andrew. Mr. Carleton put in proxies of Messrs. Stafford and Rollaston for the amendment, and Mr. Johnstone put in proxy of the Rev. Stuart for the same. The motion is still open to be brought up again. Greymodth, Saturday. The Golden Fleece Extended Company declared a dividend last night of Is. Cd. per share. This company has declared in dividends since 22nd November last £16,800. O AMARU, Sunday. The wheat market is likely to suffer a decline in price. It is at present quoted at 4s. 3d., but owing to the large quantity of firstclass samples coming to hand it is expected to decline at least 2d. per bushel during the present week. Dunedin, Saturday. The rowing match for the handsome silver cup presented by Mr. Baxter, of the Pier Hotel, took place this afternoon. The entries were—The Otago Rowing Club’s Isis, United Tradesmen’s Young Colonist, Union Club’s Union, Excelsior Club’s Little Nell and Excelsior, and Alliance Club’s Alliance. The probability of six crews, most of them well matched, contesting the honor of the occasion, combined with the fact that the match was one of the last of the season, caused the event to be one of great interest to boating men, and a very close result was expected even by those who professed to be able to name the winner. The event was closely contested, and ended as follows:—Young Colonist, 1 ; Isis, 2 ; Little Nell, 3 ; Union, 4 ; Excelsior, 5 ; Alliance, 6. Tuapeka, Saturday. The Novel Handicap was won by McKenna’s Clyde. Lawrence Handicap—Atlas 1, Rob Roy 2, Spinaway 3. Consolation Race— Spinaway 1, Merry Bird 2, Euta ly 3.
