The s.v Taranaki - left for Northern ports at 11.15 am yesterday. , , , , The Rangatira, from Napier, may be looked for here this afternoon The steamer Wellington, from the North, will arrive here to-day. As she goes on the Patent Slip to be cleaned, she will not sail South till Sunday. The Arawata, from Melbourne via the South, will arrive here this morning. The p.s. Manawatu, Captain Harvey, arrived here from Wanganui at 7.30 a.m. yesterday. She left there at 3.45 p.m. the previous day : crossed the bar at 4.20 p.m.; and experienced fresh B.E. winds throughout. The Manawatu will return to Wanganui to-day. The prevalence of southerly wind has prevented the sailing of the ship* Avalanche and Ocean Mail for London. The ship Leicester got under way yesterday forenoon, and was taken in tow by the p.s. Manawotu; but on Opening up the entrance a fresh S.E. wind was Mowing and a heavy roll setting in, which proved too lunch for the Manawatu to steam against with her heavy .burden: Consequently the attempt had to be given up. and the ship having no sail, drifted back past Halsweli Point. She eventually beat out to Worser Bay, where she came to an anchor at 3,30 p.m.- , The ship Himalaya has cleared out for Callao, whence It is probable she will go to San Francisco to load for London; ‘ . The s.s. Kennedy arrived in harbor from West Coast and< Nelson at 7 a.m. yesterday. She left the latter' place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, and had fine weathdr across. She will return to Nelson and Wist Coast ports this evening at 7 o’clock. The Tui should arrive from Lyttelton and Kaikoura to-night. • The schooner Merlin, Captain Grubb, from Lyttelton; arrived in port yesterday afternoon. She left there on Tuesday night with a fresh S.E. wind, which dunged to N.E, next day : yesterday morning had another puff from the S.E., which brought her up to port." , The brig Neptune and the barque Anne Melhuish, which left here on Wednesday, brought up in Worser Bay in the afternoon. The latter got under way yesterday, ahd cleared the Heads at 5 p.m. The s.s. Rotorua will arrive here from the South tomorrow and sail for Sydney, via Taranaki and the Manukau, with the outward Bsn Francisco mail, to be transhipped at Auckland to the City of New York, which leaves for Kandavau, Honolulu, and San Francisco on the 13th instant. The schopners Star,of the Sea and Canterbury sailed for Pelorus Sound yesterday. The ketch Wild Duck left the harbor yesterday at noon bonnd for the Manukau. " < ThF'Gefcha'ri" corvette Augusta, which arrived at Sydney on the 14th ult. from the Cape of Good Hope, was built in France for the American Government during the late war, and has the reputation and all the appearance of being a very smart’vessel. Her burthen is 1750 tons, and her horse-power 1800. Her armament consists of ,10 guns Krupp pattern on the broadside, with two field guns. The former throw a shot'of 1501bs. She was commissioned in October,, and from- this port will proceed to the South.Sea' Islands on a cruise.—Sydney Morning Herald. ■ . ■;
