The Floral Star arrived yesterday from Wellington. The Alhambra, from the North, and Excelsior, schooner from Port Chalmers.,arrived this morning. Sailed : Julies Vogel, schooner, for Wellington ; Nellie Flirt, for Auckland, and John Knox, barque, for Sydney. HOKITIKA. Saturday. Arrived : Beautiful Star, from the Bluff. The Rangatira, Captain Evans, from Napier, arrived in port on Saturday night at ten o’clock. She left Napier at 6.30 p.m. on Friday. Experienced light N.E. wind to Castlepoint; thence a light N. W. till rounding Cape Palliser, where it freshened up to astrong gale, with heavy sea, and continued so till arrival here as above. The Rangatira will sail for Napier to-morrow. The cutter Hero, from Pelorus Sound, arrived here on Saturday evening. The Stormbird, Captain Doile, left Wanganui at 1215 a.m. on Friday last; crossed the bar at Ip.m., and arrived here at 1230 a m, yesterday Experienced fresh S.W. wind to Maha; thence to arrival here strong N. W. The Stormbird will return to Wanganui this evening. The Union Company’s s.s. Hawea. Captain Wheeler, from the South, arrived on Saturday at noon. She left Port Chalmers at 2.15 p.m. on the Ist; arrived at Lyttelton at 8 a.m. on the 2nd : sailed again at 5 p.m.; and arrived here as above. Experienced strong head winds from Lyttelton. We are obliged to Mr. Dougherty, pnrser, for Christchurch and Dunedin flies. The Hawea proceeded North at 1 a.m. on Sunday. The steamer Kiwi, Captain Campbell, from an East Coast trip, arrived in harbor on Sunday at 10 a.m. She left Napier with 130 bales of wool at 6.30 p.m. on Thursday; called at Pourere on Friday morning at 6 o’clock, was away again at 8 o’clock, and brought up at Blackhead at 10 a.m. An hour was spent there landing station stores and a boat. Next visited Cape Tnrnagain and shipped 18 bales of wool, and sailed at 6 p.m. same day, reaching Castlepoint at 5 o’clock next morning ; left at 5 p.m. same day, and arrived here as above.) Experienced N.W, wind to Cape Palliser, thence thick westerly weather. The Kiwi will sail again for Castlepoint and Napier this evening. The p.s. Manawatu, Captain Harvey, arrived in port yesterday afternoon at 3 o’clock from Wanganui. She left that port at 1240 a.m. on Saturday ; crossed the bar at 1.30 p.m., having towed the ketch Thames out. Experienced light N.W. wind to Kapiti, thence till arrival here strong S.E., with head sea. The Manawatu will return to Wanganui this evening at 8 O’clock.
The s.s. Easby sailed for Newcastle and Sydney at 10.30 a.m. on Sunday. The ship Leicester will probably sail for Newcastle to-day., The New Zealand Shipping Company’s chartered ship Ocean Mail, Captain Watson, cleared at the Customs on Saturday with the following cargo, valued at £78,000:—4920 bales wool, 584 qr-bales and packets wool. 134 cases preserved meats, 15 bales skins, 200 casks tallow. 30 cases glue, and 10 pkgs sundries. It is expected that she will sail either this afternoon or to-morrow morning for London. A close race Home may be anticipated between the Ocean Mail and the Avalanche, as the latter vessel is expected to sail early this week, being now full of cargo. These two r.enowned clippers are well matched and commanded by skilful men. No doubt their race Home will be a closely contested one. There is a considerable amount Of betting between the two crews os to the result.
