THE DIXON CRICKET MATCH.
It is not often we have to record a cricket match between teams chosen from the members and connections of a single family, and as far as we know the Dixon family is the only family in the colony who can put a couple of teams in the field. Mr. Edward Dixon, of course, is well-known in cricketing circles. ■ If a subscription is required, a good hard worker wanted to assist in getting up a match, or an umpire needed, he is always to the fore. As a cricketer his day has gone by. The oldfashioned underhand three-quarter bowling, which Mr. Dixon still affects, was yesterday very destructive to the wickets of the novices, but is now out of date, and his style of batting is not what it used to be. Some of the younger members of the family played fairly, and the smaller members of the' team—some not as big as their bats created a good deal of amusement by the way in which they knocked the bowling about.. A match was afterwards played between an eleven of George Dixon’s cordial factory and an eleven of the family, which resulted in a complete victory for the latter. About forty ladies, members of the family, were present, and with the offspring of the married portion they made quite a picture. . After the matches mutual congratulations were indulged in, and, the family separated, having enjoyed a capital afternoon’s amusement. .
