COLONIAL PRIZE FIRING.

(PER PRESS AGENCY.) Hokitika, Monday. The Colonial Firing commenced at 7.30 a.m. with the First Carbine Match. Littlewood, Wanganui, won both, range prizes, and the first prize, with the fine score of 53, having made 28 at 400 yards. Sykes, of the Thames, 48 ; McLean, Auckland, 46 ; Cummins, Wanganui, 43. The First Infantry Match commenced at 10 a.m. The first two ranges are just finished. The highest scores are—Paynter, Nelson, 53 ; Partington, Auckland, 51; Keefe, Taurauga, 50 ; Campbell, A.C., 48 ; Harding, Oamaru, 48 ; Perrin, Christchurch, 48. The weather is fine, and the shooting going on quickly. The First Rifle Match was finished at one o’clock. It took one hour’s less time than last year. The following are the scores :—Richardson, 70; Partington, 69; Paynter, 69; Sergeant King, 68 ; Keefe, 67 ; Clark, 66 ; Harding, 66 ; Willcocks, 65. After dinner the Second Carbine Match came off. Hill, 36; Cummins, 33 ; Broughton, 33 ; and Kettle fourth place, with a score of 32. The Second Rifle Match 1 was then taken, the result being the best shooting ever made at the colonial meetings. Partington, Auckland, 37; Stonebridge, Parker, Keefe, Turner,

Wash, and Macintosh, 36 each. In firing ties, Stonebridge made • 5 bull’s - eyes, and Parker 4 bull’s-eyes and one centre. The others were placed as named. The weather is fine. '
