THE LATE FIRE AT THE WHARF.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE NEW ZEALAHD TIMES. Sir, Is it not a wise and necessary precaution, seeing that our harbor is likely to become the rendezvous of a large number of merchant vessels, to have water so laid along each side of the wharf, running along each T where vessels are berthed, with branches so arranged, and having a wharf hose-reel in readiness, which could be used by the night watchman at a moment’s notice, and brought into play long before the brigades could be on the. spot, although branchmen would have everything ready to hand upon their arrival ? The amount of goods stored in the sheds, and in the holds of vessels whilst lying alongside, ought' to guarantee such an improvement and provision against the loss of property, especially seeing you have such a splendid water-supply and pressure at your command,—l am, &c., WALTON.
