O amaru, Friday, The breakdown ofithe-engine last evening at Waitaki resulted from the driver allowing the water supply to get too low,, and melting the lead stopper in the plug at the top of the fir*, box. The lead is placed on the plug for the purpose of providing against negligence in the driver allowing the water to get too low in the boiler. A wooden stopper would have an* swered temporarily, but it was not thought of. The driver in starting neglected to fill the boiler through fear of allowing the steam to get too low. The driver has been suspended. • Dunedin, Friday, i At a meeting of the Milton Pottery Com. pany this afternoon the balance sheet showed a loss of £538. It Was resolved to windup the company., . .
