Importations into England of meat carcases from America are increasing.
The mails via San Francisco have arrived off Crookhaven,
Arrived— St. Osyth. The Northumberland, steamer, from Melbourne, has passed Cape St Vincent. Biiif bane, Wednesday.
The Singapore arrived yesterday with London advices. The London wool sales closed,on 3rd December. It will be long remembered by all the trade, owing to the rapid and enormous advances on all sorts. The sales closed at the highest quotations, with a firm tone. There ;is every indication of the consumption being on a large scale. Sydney, Wednesday.
Although rumors are afloat, there is no appearance of the small-pox in the city. The patients in the quarantine station are doing well.
A private telegram from London states that the date of the next wool sales is not till March 23.
Mr. Fiddington has been elected leader of the Opposition. . The delegates at the Cable Conference are invited to a marine excursion at the end of the week.
A crushing of 440 tons at No. 8 South Lady Mary claim, Gympie, yielded 15600z5. gold. H.M.S. Sapphire and Wolverine have been sent to the quarantine station at Spring Cove.
