THE ALL-ENGLAND CRICKET MATCH.

*> r^-.- : : TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW.ZBALAND TIMES, i Sib, —I have read your report of the meeting re the above match, ,and believe that.it is in some respects at Tariance with facts. ~. I have been told by-a- gentleman who was present that the question was raised whether the names should be published or not, • and the chairman (Mr. Hunter) said that it rested with Messrs. Buchanan, Dixon, and Bromley to present their report or withhold it. as they pleased. They did present their report, and 1 gave the names of the twenty-two players they had chosen, with seven emergency men, as there was some doubt about the Wanganui men being able to play. According to.the report in-the New Zealand Times it is stated, that the team would be. chosen from the 29 players.. mentioned, leaving people to infer that the 22 were not' chosen. I believe a, reporter came, to the meeting,' and was, told.by the'secretary that he could not come in, a piece of officiousness on thepart of the secretary, as the meeting could hardly be considered a private one, relating as it did to an event in which everyone is interested, and to which the citizens o£ Wellington have subscribed, consequently they, have a right to an accurate report of what was done in the matter. I should like to know from whom you obtained your information, as I fancy the names of the emergency men were mixed with the others, lest they should be offended and refuse to play if their services were required. The emergency men were Bell/. Evans, Foley, Haughton, Mace, McKemie, Russell, and I think they should be .published here. as at Wanganui.—l am, &c., Subscriber.
