The import trade continues dull, and general corai plaint? of depression, which from some cause or otiier eem to be the customary attendants on the month of January, are prevalent in every department. The only alteration in quotations which calls tor remark Os the steady advance in the price of sugar, which stocks in hand and shipments to arrive had somewhat checked. I C sugar is now held for £47 to £4B per ton, d.p.,! No. 2, white, £49 to £SO; brewers’ crystals, ‘ £45 to £47 10s. per'ton, with every prospect of ad-.; vanced rates being obtained.. Flour is unaltered froin J last week, although somewhat weaker. Colonial produce is unaltered in quotations. Keg butter, 9d.to lOd for prime cure ; bacon and hams, ■ 10d to Is ; cheese, 7|d to B£d for Canterbury ; flour, £ls to £ls 10s; oats, 2» <Jd to 2s lOd for new ; maize, - 6s 9d; potatoes, £5 to £0 per ton. ” BY TELEGRAPH. ’, DUNEDIN.
