Passengers for Welhngton-Mr..and Miss McGregor, Captain Turner, Messrs. Whitehead, Morris, and Weizell. LYTTELTON, Sunday. Sailed : Saxon, schooner, for Auckland. The ps. Manawatu, Captain Harvey, arrived in harbor from Wanganui yesterday at 2.30 p.m. She left there at 2 o'clock yesterday morning, and crossed the bar at 2,40 a.m. Experienced strong N.W. breeze throughout the passage. The Manawatu brings 149 bales of wool and a large number of passengers. She will sail for Wanganui to-morrow at Thess Tui, Captain Bonner, left Foxton at 12.20 v m. on Saturday ; crossed the bar at 1.20, and made the wharf that evening, after a passage of. 9 hours. She experienced light westerly wind to Terawiti ; thence till arrival Btrong N.W. breeze. The I ui will sail again for Foxton to-day. . . The Union Company's s.s. Taranaki, Captain H J C Andrew, from the North, made fast to the Queen's Wharf yesterday morning at 5 o'clock. The Stormbird brought a cargo consisting of 100 bales wool and 170 live sheep. She is announced to eail again for Wanganni to day at 1 p.m. . The s s Easby, from Newcastle and Sydney, arrived in harbor on Saturday at 1.30 p.m. She sailed from Newcastle on the 23th and Sydney at 8.25 a.m. on the 31st, and passed Cape Farewell at 11 p.m. on the4th. Experienced light N.E. winds, with fine weather, throughout the whole passage. Reports passing a topsail schooner on Friday afternoon, about 2» miles west of Cape Farewell. Before reaching Halswell -Point the Manawatu had forged ahead about a length, both steamers firing up vigorously, with all canvas spread to a fresh breeze. The Manawatu continued to increase her lead to ChafTers passage, but after passing through it the Stormbird gradually crept up on her, and when Sinclairs Head was reached, according to the account of the ofiicers of the Stormbird, Turnbull s boat shot head, and when Terawiti was rounded tho Manawatu was some distance astern.
