(PEE PRESS AGEI7CT.) Sunday. Two junior inspectors of the A.C., Richardson and Goring, have been reduced to firstclass sub-inspectors ; two sub-inspectors, McLean and Smith, and about thirty men have been dismissed. Auckland, Sunday. The German war-ship Baucke gave an entertainment last evening for the benefit of the Orphan Home. Dr. Pollen has received a deputation from several chiefs respecting the administration of native affairs in Waikato. Mr. Rowe has again applied to Dr. Pollen to set apart land for settlement in the Thames district. Dr. Pollen referred him to the Waste Lands Board. The following stakes, won at the late races, have been paid over : —Ray, £448 ; Cutis, £309 ; McGee, £383 ; Hunt, £76; and several other smaller sums, making in all £1451. An inquest wag held yesterday on the body of a female infant found at Hauraki bay. A verdict of wilful murder against some person unknown was returned. The Hero made the usual trip to-day for the benefit of the Orphan Home. There were a thousand persons on board, including 300 children. The Australia's quarantined' passengers are now more contented. Dr. Philson has lodged a complaint respecting threatening language used by them on his recent visit. An official enquiry will probably be held. Ltttelton, Saturday. The Champion Challenge Sailing Race came off to-day, in answer to a challenge of the master of the ketch XXX, over the same course as the regatta, for a sweep of £25 each. The race was won by the schooner Transit; XXX, second; Minnehaha, third: Belle Brandon, fourth. There was a good steady breeze all the time. The case of suicide reported from the Cardigan Castle appears to be. that a single man named Cornelius Harrigan, a native of Cork, aged 30, was missed from the ship, and was supposed to have fallen overboard. The yacht Minona sailed for Dunedin to-day.
