The value of the imports to the port of Auckland for the quarter ending December 31 is £234,251. Exports for the same period £206,140. A fire at the new North-road to-day destroyed the house of a settler named Clark. The house was insured in the Norwich Union for £IOO.

The New Zealand Shipping Company have presented a cup value £2B for the Auckland regatta.

In the Supreme Court Frederick Northrop, for embezzlement, was sentenced to three years ; Richard - T ames Torpey, for forgery and uttering, eighteen months. Mary Ann Kane pleaded guilty to concealment of birth. Judge Gillies commiserated her unhappy condition, and regretted he could notpunish her seducer. He hoped the gaoler would- keep her apart from the hardened class of criminals. Sentence, twelve months' imprisonment. At an inquest held on the body of William Andrews, a seaman, who died suddenly on Tuesday evening, a verdict of died from natural causes was returned.

Thos. Grey, Joseph Knight, and Joseph Alfin, charged with assaulting a constable, were acquitted. Thos. Capper, for uttering a forged order for £5, got nine months. Francis Lynch, charged with appearing at Coromandel as a voter and falsely answering to the name of Win. Wright, of Wangapoua, pleaded ignorance, and having done the act at the suggestion of another. He was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment. Wareham, of the Waste Lands department, appeared to answer a charge of contempt of court, in writing a letter to Judge Gillies concerning the cause of a prisoner named Draper. Wareham pleaded ignorance. The Judge severely admonished him and discharged him.

Dr. J. G. Smith has been sent to the quarantine station.

Dunedin, Thursday.

The newly-constituted Harbor Board met this afternoon. The business was of a formal character, nothing being done beyond appointing Mr. W. H. Reynolds as permanent chairman.

The Supreme Court sittings were continued to-day, when Ettie Johnston, for stealing, was sentenced to one year's imprisonment, and Wm. Stanley, for obtaining goods under false pretences, to three years' penal servitude. Michael Slattery, charged with rape, was acquitted. The Government have decided to place the entire management of the Dunedin. Hospital under a committee, also the necessary funds for carrying it on efficiently. The Government will be prepared to subsidise subscriptions to the extent of £2 for every £1 collected.

The passing of Justices of the Peace for Dunedin will in future be taken by Mr. J. N. Watt, Sheriff of the Supreme Court. Oamakd, Thursday.

A boy named Dansey was thrown out of a cart this afternoon. A wheel ran over his body, and death was almost immediate. Chribtchubch, Thursday.

A severe hailstorm occurred in the Ellesmere. district on Tuesday last. It was of short duration, but did considerable damage to the crops.

The body of the man named James Bobie, who committed suicide last Thursday, was found this morning floating in the river, near the spot where he went in. An inquest will be held to-morrow.
