CRICKET.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ’ZEALAND TIMES. Sir, —As the time is approaching for the visit of the All England Eleven to Wellington, I trust you will be good enough to find a space in your columns for the insertion of this letter. On Saturday I happened to be on the Basin Reserve when a scratch match was being played. I took a very great interest in the game, and was also much pleased to see such a good muster, to encourage which I have taken the liberty in chosing for next Saturday two elevens, that a more equal contest and a better game may be the result. The Match Committee will also find when electing sixteen players from Wellintton (combined with the six mentioned below), it will materially assist them in arriving at a straightforward election of the twenty-two to play against the Englishmen : —Armitage, bowler and slip ; Bryce, bowler and point; Edmunds, wickets ; Evatt, longoff and long-leg; Garwood, bowler and slip ; Haughton, long-leg and long-off; Horwood,

square-leg ; Mason, cover-point ami long-on , McKenzie, long on ami cover-point; J. A, Salmon, long-slip ; Russell, back-stop ; Hell, cover-point and long-ou *, Blacklock, long-on and lung-leg : Bondi long-on and cover-point ; Evans, long-slip; Kennedy, long-leg and long off ; Knapp, bowler and slip ; Lillie, squareleg ; Lockett, point and change bowler ; I. J. Salmon, bowler and slip ; Speed, back-stop ; Williams, wickets ; emergency men, Williamson, Camubell, Gascoigne ami Vincent. The six members from other towns should be— Cross, Crowther, Jacobs, Lyster-Kaye, ParTing ton, ami W. J. Salmon. Trusting I have ■, not erred in my judgment.—l am, &e, ! Sussex. [We think a better match will result from tlie late Interprovincwl team (that played against Nelson) playing an eleven chosen from afl-comers on Saturday next, as was arranged last evening.—Ed. N.Z. Times.]
