CRICKET.

PAHAUTANUI V. HUTT. A cricket match was played on New Year’s Day at Pahautanni, between an eleven of the Hutt Cricket Club and an eleven of the Pahautanui Club, which resulted in a victory for the Hutt Club. The fielding of the Hutt team throughout was very good, but they are indebted for their success chiefly to Locket for his superior play, both in batting and bowling. The Pahautanni team were rather unsuccessful in their first innings, for which their captain is to bo partly blamed, as five of the players were run out through his eagerness to make runs. Iggulden’s bowling was remarkably good, sixteen wickets being taken by him during the two innings. The weather was all that could be desired, and a great number of people were present to witness the game. There was a good muster of the fair sex amongst them, and as the brass band was there dancing on the green followed as a natural consequence. Everyone appeared to enjoy themselves with their day’s amusement, and broke up about five o'clock, when the Pahautanui Club entertained the Hutt team at tea at Mr. S. Prosser’s hotel. PAHAUTANUI.
