WELLINGTON JOCKEY CLUB.

A meeting of the Wellington Jockey Clubwas held yesterday evening in the Empire Hotel. Present: Messrs. George Hunter, George, Young, Paul, McDowell, G. Crawford, and Bromley. TENDERS. The first business before the meeting was the consideration of two tenders sent in for the erection of permanent booths on the Hutt course. Both were declined, the amounts being considered too high, the reason being that so little time was given to carry out the work,, and it was decided to postpone the matter till next year, when more time would be available for obtaining the timber required. NEW RULES AND SCALE OP WEIGHTS. The following letter was read in reference to the above subject Warner’s Hotel, Christchurch, Dec. 12. Sir, —By this post I forward four printed copies of the new rules and scale of weights adopted by the committee chosen by the delegates of the various Jockey Clubs at the late meeting in Christchurch. Will you be good enough to submit these rules to the committee of your club at your earliest convenience, and return one copy, with any alterations or suggestions your committee may deem advisable. You would also much oblige me by a distinct expression from your club as to whether they are inclined to adopt these rules. I may here mention that the delegates suggest that, the new rules and scale of weights should come into operation from Ist January, 1877. • > - ‘ You will observe that there are no rules in the draft I forward in reference to subscriptions, etc. The committee appointed by the delegates have thought it best to suggest to each Jockey Club to introduce what may be considered their own private rules in the form of addenda.—l am, &c., .. • , • Fred. A sub-committee will appointed, consisting of Mr. Paul, Mr. Thui ipson, and Mr. Young, to consider the rules, and report thereon to the next general meeting of stewards. . ■ ' It was resolved to have a race to be called the Sires’ Produce Stake, nominations to be received on the same night as that on which, nominations for the Derby of 1878 and 187? will be received, namely, the 12th February. The first race will take place in the year 1881; the club will give £IOO, and there will be a sweep of £lO for each horse, amounts to be subscribed by owners of sires added.
