English Mail, arrived here on Saturday-„ She left Melbourne at U a.m. on the Bth instant;met the R.M.S. Assam, at the Heads - ! and transhipped from her malls and passengers, and proceeded on the voyage at 7 p.m. Experienced fight variable winds and fine weather to the 12th, thence fresh S.E. wind till arrival at the Bluff at 3 a m on the 13th; left at 9.30 a.m„ and arrived off i Otago Heads at 9 p.m.; but had to anchor till the following morning, arriving at/Port,Chalmers at 5 am on the 14th; left at 4.30 p.m., and arrived at Lyttelton at 6.30 a.m.: sailed at 5 p.m. and arrived here as above- Experienced N.E. winds to Lyttelton: thence S.E. . _ ! The s.s. Tni, Captain Bonner, arrived here from Foxton at 8,15 p.m. yesterday. She left there at 9.30 ' in the morning, crossed the bar an houraftei wards, " and experienced fresh S.E. breeze throughout. The Tni brings 15,000 feet timber and a quantity of wool. She will sail for Lyttelton and Kaikoura to-day. The p.s. Manawatu left Wanganui at 9.40 a m. yesterday, crossed the bar at fO.IO a.m., and arrived here at 11.30 last night. Experienced fresh S.E. •winds to Maha with head sea, thence till arrival light variable breezes. The Manawatu brings 120 ■ bales] wool besides a quantity of skins, tallow, etc. " She will return to Wanganui this day at 6 p.m. There were no signs of the Bangatira up to'the time of our going to press this morning, - She has probably taken'shelter from the late southerly wind. The schooner Ruby sailed last night for Waipapa. ' • The barque Anne Melhuish. Ciptaln Chadwick, sailed yesterday morning for Newcastle, but came to an anchorage round Halswell Point. At 6 p.m. a breeze from the N.W. sprang up and she sailed on her voyage. ■' , , . _ The ships Camnerdown and Horsa arrived at San Francisco from tills port, on the 11th and the 19th October respectively. They have, run a, very good ■ race, as the Camperdown made the trip in 66 days, and the Horsa In 57 days. ; « ■ ’ The s.s. Arawata,sailed for Nelson shortly after 6 o’clock on Saturday afternoon. She will return hero this morning, and sail again during the day for Mol- . bourne, via thd South; taking the outward Suez mall. The s.s. Kasby, for Newcastle,; sailed on Saturday r afternoon at 6 o’clock. ■ . • - , The barque Suffolk, Captain Yarnall. one of Turn-, bull and Co.'s Melbourne' and Wellington line of clippers, sailed from Melbourne for this port on the Bth instant, and Is therefore due here. She will be followed by the brigantine Belle, how loading at Melbourne. The p.s. Charles Edward left the wharf for Nelson and West Coast ports on Saturday at 3.39 p.m. The s.s. Stormbird's departure for Wanganui was postponed till 6 o’clock last evening In consequence of the strong S-E. gale. She left at that hour. The s.s. Easby left Port Chalmers at 9.30 a.m. on the 14th: arrived at Lyttelton at 6 a.m. on the 16th; sailed at 3 p.m., and arrived here at 8 a.m. on Saturs.s. Hawea will sail North to-day at 2 p.m.
