307 ; The NB herd was commenced by the preseni owner in 1841 (35 years ago) by the importation of a number . of, pedigreed bulls and heifers of the now famous Bates, blood, to which were added, by purchase in the colony, several pure Bates bulls and heifers, imported by those well-known judges the Messrs. Bolden. Since then continuous importations have been periodically introduced regardless of cost, and none but sires of ,undoubted purity of blood and high lineage have been used in the herd, the result being the production of cattle which for quality, weight, uniformity of type, and early maturity, cannot be excelled. The fat cattle are without exception the best that come into the markets ; the bullocks have been soldiat from three to four years old, and the total sales for the last five years have realise I an average, of £ls 3s. 3d., far exceeding'that obtained for any other brand of similar ages in the colonies, which is the indisputable test of intrinsic value.
