• A concert was held in the schoolroom, Kaiwarra, -' bu December 7th, for the purpose of ■ raising a school prize fund. The-room was' literally packed,-and many could not obtain admittance. The’ performance was successful. '■ ■ '; :r ■'

P. Thonipson gave a treat'to-the 1 school children of Horokiwi Valley and the' ’ Pahautanui school. - Tho entertainment-Was held in -the Pahautanui schoolroom, which was tastefully decorated for

the occasion with flags and flowers, glass globes, &c. About 80 children, sat down to an excellent tea, which was supplied; by, Mr. Charles Pyke. After the children had retired ; from the table, their parents arid friends .sat-down, to the number of, about . seventy,. During the afternoon the-Pahautauui brass .band played several, lively, inarches and, other music,; while the children and, young folks played upon the green' at kiss in the ring and -other sports. After, the tea was over a largo quantity of toys were distributed amongst the children by Mr. Thompson, and. as they were ; drawn. . for; by ticket from awheel of, fortune a good deal of fun and mefriment was caused by the selection which chance directed to some of the drawers.. At about half-past 6 the company began to disperse for their various homes,, thoroughly satisfied with the pleasant afternoon,they,had spent, and expressing their, grateful. feelings towards the generous gentleman', who had so literally and kindly entertained, .them. In the evening about fbrty ‘couple/, reassembled, in. the schoolroom and sperit the night in dancing. At about eleven o’clock in the evening there was a display of some very , good fireworks, which was superintended by Mr. T. Bould. On' November .17th a presentation was made to Mr. A. McTavish, the '.managing clerk- to Messrs. Krull ,and‘ Co., upon the occasion; of his marriage, by the.-employes, of . the firm. The testimonial consisted of a very handsome marble timepiece, with, a suitable inscription, accompanied by a letter,'signed.by .the..subscribers, in which they, expressed their .esteem and respect, and thanked him for the uniform courtesy and 'kindness 'displayed, by-. Him to themselves in their respective positions as employes. of'.Measrs..Krull and Co.
