THE COUNTY RIDINGS.
The following are the boundaries of the ridings into which the counties within the old province of Wellington have been divided ; WANGANUI COUNTY. Waitotara Riding.—The boundary commences at a point in the centre of the Waitbtara river where the production of the northern boundary line of the Waitotara purchased block strikes it, and runs thence easterly along the said boundary line and along the northern boundary line of the Kai Iwi block and of the Kaiwatu and Koatanui block to the centre of the Mangaone stream ; thence southerly along the centre of -the said stream, and along the centre of the Kai Iwi stream, and along the western boundary line of the Wanganui purchased block to the sea ; thence westerly along the shores of Cook Strait to the mouth of the Waitotara river; thence alongthe centre of the said river tothe starting point, Westmere Riding.—The boundary commences at the north-western comer of section No. 241, right bank Wanganui, and runs thence easterly to the eastern corner of section No. 15, so as to include sections Nos. 241, 245, 239, 244, 170, 157, 156, 91, 90, 89, 108, 85, 84, 83, 82, 81, 80, and 15; thence southerly and easterly along the western and southern boundary lines of the Wanganui town belt, and the production of ■ the latter to the centre of the river Wanganui; thence down the centre of the said river to the sea ; thence westerly along the shore of Cook Strait to the mouth of the Morohanan stream ; and from thence northerly along the western boundary line of the Wanganui purchased block to the starting point. Brunswick Riding.—The boundar commences at a point in'the River Wanganui where the production of the northern boundary of Section No. 202, right bank Wanganui, strikes it and runs thence down the centre of the said river till it intersects the preduction of the northern boundary of Suburban Section No. 14 - thence westerly to the western boundary of the Wanganui Town Belt ; thence southerly along the said western boundary to the eastern comer of Section No. 15 ; thence westerly along the northern boundary of Westmere Biding to the south-west comer of Section No. 131 ; and thence northerly to the starting point by lines so as to include Sections Nos.
131, 132, 133, 134, 229, 193, 60, 69, 185, 182, 206, 205, and 202. " Warrengate Riding.—The boundary commences at a point in the centre of the River Wanganui where the production of the northern boundary of Campbelltown strikes it, and runs thence easterly along the said production and northern boundary to the eastern boundary of the said town ; thence southerly along the said eastern boundary and the same produced to the south side of No. 2 line; thence easterly along the said line to the north-east corner of Section No. 33 ; thence southerly to the north-west corner of Section No. 21; thence in lines so as to include Sections Nos. 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 107, 136, 129, 130, 131, 132, 133, 134, 135, 177,179,180,189,190, 194 a, and 248, and the production of the northern boundary of the said Section No. 248 to the centre of the Wangaehu River ; thence down the centre of the said river to the sea ; thence westerly along the shore of Cook Strait to the centre of the River Wanganui; thence up the centre of the said river to the starting point. Waipakura Riding.—The boundary commences at a- point in the centre of the River Wanganui where the production of the northeastern boundary of the Upokongaro Block No. 1 strikes it, and runs thence southerly to the south-east corner of Section No. 42, so as to include the Upokongaro Block No. 1, Section 280, the Waipakura Native Reserve, and Sections Nos. 353, 360, 295,293, 292, 272,116, 115, 114, 113,112,57, and 42 ; thence westerly along the northern boundary of Warrengate riding to the centre of the River Wanganui ; and thence up the centre of the said river to the starting point.! Makirikiri Riding.—The boundary commences at the north-west corner of Section No. 344, left bank Wanganui, and runs thence up the centre of the Makirikiri stream to the northern boundary of Section No. 305 ; thence along the said northern boundary to the western boundary of Section No. 312 ; thence northerly and easterly along the western and northern boundaries of the said section and the production of the northern boundary of the same to the centre of the Wangaehu river ; thence down the centre of the said river to the north-east comer of Warrengate Riding ; thence westerly along the northern boundary of the said riding to the eastern boundary of Waipakura riding; and thence northerly along the said eastern boundary to the starting point. Mangawhero Riding.—Bounded towards the South by the northern boundaries of Waitotara, Westmere, Brunswick, Waipakura, and Makirikiri ridings; towards the West by Patea county and Taranaki county; towards the North by West Taupo county ; towards the East by East Taupo county, Hawke’s Bay county, and Rangitikei county. EANGITIKEI COUNTY. Eangitoto Riding.—Bounded towards the north and north-east by lines so as to include blocks numbers CXVfI., OXVIIL, CXIX., OXX., CXXL, CXXIL, CXXTIL, CXXIV., CXXV., CXXYI, and CXXVIL, sections numbers 44, 43, 38, and 36, blocks numbers CCLXVIIL, CCLXIX., and CCLXXI, and section 36a, Rangitikei district; towards the south-east by the centre of the Rangitikei river ; towards the south-west by the shore of Cook Strait; and towards the north-west by lines as to include blocks numbers CXYII., CLXV., and CXLVII., and by a line being the production of the north-west boundary line of the last-named block to ! the shore of Cook Strait.
Okakapu Biding.—Bounded towards the north by the centre of the Turakina river, by the centre of the Makiririri stream, and by lines so as to include sections numbers 26, 23, 21, 19, 17, 43, 45, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, and 52, Turakina district; towards the east by lines so as to include sections numbers 56, 57, 67a, and 58, Turakina district; towards the southeast by lines so as to include block number XCIX., and by the north-west boundary lines of Rangitoto riding ; and towards the southwest by the shore of Cook Strait. Clifton Riding.—Bounded towards the north by lines so as to include sections numbers 34, 35, 36, 40, 41, 42, 45, 46, 51, 52, 53, 55, and 12, and block number VI., Rangitikei district; towards the south-east by the centre of the Rangitikei river; towards the south by the northern boundary line of Rangitoto riding; towards the south-west by the north-eastern boundary lines of Rangitoto riding; and towards the north-west and west by the south-east boundary lines of Okakapu riding. Porewa Riding.—Bounded towards thenorth by lines so as to include blocks numbers CXCTV., CXO V., LXXI, LXXIL, LXXIIL, I.XXV.a, LXXXI., LXV., XXXVIII., and VIII., Rangitikei district; towards the east by the centre of the Porewa stream, and by the centre of the Rangitikei river; towards the south by north boundary lines of Okakapu and Clifton ridings; and towards the west by the west boundary lines of sections numbers 31, 30, 23, and 22, and of blocks numbers LXIIL, LXTX, LXX., and CXCIV.
Wangaehu .Riding.—Bounded towards the north-east by the north-east boundary lines of the Buatangata block, by , the ceniife of the Turakina river, and by the centre of the Waimutu stream; towards the east by the west boundary of Porewa riding; towards the south by the north boundary of Okakapu riding; towards the south-west by the shore of Cook Strait; and towards the north-west by the centre of the river Wangaehu. Makohau Riding.—Bounded towards the north-east by the north-east boundary of the Rangitikei District, arid the production of the said north-east boundary line to the centre of the Wangaehu river ; towards the east by lines so as to include Blocks numbers CCXLVII., COXLVX, CCXXXL, CCLTX,, COLL, COXII., CCLXXXV., CCLXXXVL, CCLXXXVII., and LXXV. ; towards , the south by the north boundary lines of Porewa and Wangaehu Ridings ; .and towards the west by the centre df the River Wangaehu. Parae Karetu Riding—Bounded towards the north by Wanganui and Hawke’s Bay, counties ; towards the east by Waipawa and Manawatu counties ; towards the south by. the Ridings of Porewa and Makohau ; towards the west by Wanganui county. MANAWATU COUNTY. Kiwitea Riding.—Bounded towards the west and north by Rangitikei county ; towards the east by the Waipawa county to a point on the Ruahine Range at the intersection with the production of the north-eastern boundary of the Manchester . Highway district ; towards the south-west by a line from the said point to the Manchester Highway district, thence by the 1 Manchester Highway District.
Manchester Hiding.—Bounded towards the north-east by the Kiwitca riding ; towards the west by Rangitikei county ; towards the southwest by the south-western boundary Hues of the Manchester Highway district, and by a line bearing 135 deg. magnetic from thS southeast corner of that district to the summit of the Tararua range ; and towards the east by Wairarapa West and Waipawa counties. Oroua Riding.—Bounded towards the northeast by the Manchester riding ; towards the south-east by the centre of the Oroua river; towards (the south-west by the north-eastern boundary lines of the township of Carnarvon ; and towards the north-west by the Rangitikei county, Taonui Biding. Bounded towards the north-east by the Manchester Riding; towards the south-east by the Wairarapa West county; towards the south-west by the south-western boundaiy lines of the township of Fitzherbert, between the Manawatu river and the summit of the Tararua range; towards the south by the centre of the Manawatu river; and towards the north-west by the centre of the Oroua river, ,
Kawakawa Biding.—Bounded towards the north-east by Oroua riding; towards the cast by the ocean and Rangitikei county. Awahm Hiding. —Bounded towards the north by the] Kawakawa riding; towards the east south, and south-west by the centre of the Manawatu river ; and towards the west by the ocean. Horowhenua Riding.—Bounded towards the north-east and north-west by Awahou, Kawakawa, and Taonui ridings ; towards the southeast by tho Wairarapa west county ; towards the south by the Hutt county; and towards the west by the shore of Cook Strait between the Waikanae and Manawatn rivers.
" - hutt county. ■ Karori -Biding. —The boundary commences at the north-western boundary of section Ne., 98, Oharin district, and runs thence easterly, south-easterly, and north-easterly l so as to include sections Nos. 98, 80, 84, 85, 86, and 87, Ohariu district ; Nos. 38, 36, 34, 32, 30, 29, 40, and 41, Makara district; Nos. 40, 39, 37, 35, 33, 31, and 30, Karori district; the Town Belt; Nos. 659 and 660, town of Wellington, and along the production of southern boundary of the said section ; No. 660 to the shore of Lambton harbor ; thence along the shores of Lambton harbor, Evans Bay, Fort Nicholson harbor, and Cook Strait, to the starting point. Excepting always the city of of Wellington, as defined in the First Schedule to the Municipal Corporations Act, 1867. Porirua Riding.—The boundary commences at a point in Porirua harbor, where a production of the north-eastern boundary of Section No. 91, Porirua district, strikes the shore, and runs thence southerly so as to include ' the following sections : —No., 91, Porirua district; Nos. 4 and -3, Pahautanui district;-No, 39, Tukapu district; Nos. 34, 33, 32, 31, 30, 29, 28, 27, 26, 25, 24, 22, 21, 20,16,15,14, 12, 11, 9,7, and 5, Horo-kiwi-Road District; and section No. 19, Harbor District, to the shore of Port Nicholson harbor; thence southerly along the shore of the said harbor till it meets; the northern boundary of Karori riding ; thence westerly along the said boundary to the shore of Cook Strait; and thence along the shores of Cook Strait and Porirua harbor to the starting point. Horokiwi Biding.—Theboundary commences at the north-eastern comer of Porirua riding, and' runs thence southerly along the eastern boundary of the said riding to the southeastern comer of section No. 39, Takapu District ; thence easterly along the northern boundaries of sections Nos. 348 and 351, Hutt District, to the north-eastern corner of the latter ; thence in a line bearing east magnetic till it intersects a line bearing north and south magnetic, which touches the eastern boundary of D. Richardson’s selection of 40 acres in the Pahautanui Agricultural Reserve; thence northerly along such north and south line to the southern boundry of the Manawatu county ; thence westerly along such southern boundary, and along the shores of Cook Strait and Porirua harbor to the starting point. E Puni Riding.—Bounded towards the north by Horokiwi riding,' and by a straight _ line from th’e south-eastern corner of the said riding to the north-western corner of section No. 199, Hutt district; towards the north-east by lines so as to include sections Nos. 232, 229, 228, 62, 63, 64, and 199, Hutt district; towards the south-east by lines so as 1 to include sections Nos. 282, 231, 230, 41. 40, 225, 27, 23, 19, 238, 239, 240, 76, 77, and 15, Hutt district; towards the south by the shore of Port Nicholson harbor; and towards the east by Porirua Riding. Waiuuiomata Riding.—The boundary commences at Taourakira Head in Cook Strait, and runs thence north-easterly along _ the boundary of the Wairarapa West county till it intersects a line east magnetic from the southeast corner of James Corrie’s selection of 120 acres, Hutt district; thence westerly along such line to thd south-eastern comer of the said selection; thence in a straight line to the south-eastern corner of section No. 232; thence along the south-eastern boundaries of E Puni 1 Riding to the shore of Port Nicholson harbor; and thence along the shore of the said harbor and of Cook Strait to starting-point. ’ Mungaroa Riding.—Bounded towards the north by the Manawatu county; towards the east and south-east by the Wairarapa West county; towards the south and south-west by E Puni and Waiuniomata ridings; and towards the west by Horokiwi riding. WAIRARAPA WEST COUNTY. Alfredton Riding.—Bounded towards the north by the Waipawa county; towards the east and south-east by the Wairarapa East county; towards the south and south-west by the Mangara stream, and by a line bearing 300° magnetic from a point on the said stream where the western boundary of section No. 28, Rangitujnau Block, strikes: it, to the summit of the Tararua range ; and towards the northwest by the Manawatu county. ’ : Masterton Riding.—Bounded; towards the north-east |by the Wairarapa East county; towards the south and south-west by the centre of the Waingawa river to its source, and by a line to the trigonometrical station, on Pukemoremore ; thence towards the west by the Manawatu county. . Carterton Riding.—Bounded towards the north and north-east by Masterton riding ; towards the south-east by the Wairarapa East county ; towards the south-west by the centre of the Waiohine river to a point due east of Mount Hector, thence due west to the summit of Mount Hector ; and towards the northwest by the Manawatu county. Greytown Riding.—Bounded towards the north and north-east by Carterton riding; towards the east and south-east by the centre of the Ruamahanga river; towards the west by the eastern shore of the Wairarapa lake, by the centre of the Tauherenikau river to its source, and by a line thence west magnetic to the summit of the Rimutuka range, and thence by the Hutt county. Featherston Riding.—Bounded towards the north by Greytown riding; towards the east by Greytown riding, and by the centre of the Ruamahanga river from the Wairarapa lake to Palliser Bay ; towards the south and southeast by the shore of Palliser Bay ; and towards the north-west by the Hutt county. Otaraia Riding.—Bounded ' towards .the north-east and south-east by the Wairarapa Bast county ; towards the south by the shore of Palliser Bay ; towards the west by Featherston riding ; and towards the north-west: by Greytown riding. / WAIRARAPA EAST COUNTY Castlepoint Riding.—Bounded towards the north by the Waipawa county; towards the east by the ocean between the Waimata stream and the Whareama river; towards the south by the centre of the Whareama river to the Waihora stream, thence by the centre of the Waihora stream to the source of its northern branch, thence by a straight line to the source of the northern branch of the Kaumingi stream, and thence by the centre of the Kaumingi stream to the Tauheru river ; and towards the west and north-west by the Wqirarapa West county. Wainuioru Biding.—Bounded towards the north-east by the Castlepoint riding ; towards the south-east by the ocean between the Whareama and Pahaua rivers ; towards the south-west by the centre of the Pahaua river to its junction with the Kaikaikuri stream, thence by a straight line towards the junction of the Huangarua river with the Wangaehu stream till the said line strikes the Wangaehu, thence by the centres of the Wangaehu stream and Huangarua river to the Ruamahanga river; and towards the west and north-west by the Wairarapa West county. Awhea Riding. ;—Bounded towards the north-east by Wainuioru riding ; toward the south-east and south-west by the ocean and Palliser Bay, between the Pahaua river and the Hurapi stream ; and towards the northwest by the Wairarapa West county.
