CRICKET.
A cricket match was played on Saturday, the 23th inst., between the Artillery Cricket Club and the Lex Cricket Club, which resulted in an easy victory for the Artillery in one innings and 38 runs to spare. The Lex won the toss and sent their opponents to the wickets. Messrs. Glasson and Kutchen for the Artillery played well for 18 and 14 respectively, and Bock 12 not out. The extras on the Lex side were numerous as the scores below will show. The bowling of J. A. Salmon throughout the innings was up to his usual mark, taking 6 wickets for 29 runs, which is very good considering the bad field he had. The Lex made a very poor score owing to the good bowling of I. J. Salmon and Garwood, the latter taking 6 wickets for 4 runs in the first innings, which is an unusually high average. The innings closed for 18 runs. The Artillery sent the Lex to the wickets again, and the bowling of I. J. Salmon and Garwood was again too much for them. J. A. Salmon played well for 8. Garwood took 6 wickets for 8 runs in the second innings, which finished for 28 runs. The fielding of the Artillery team throughout both innings was very good—especially the longstopping of Russell toJGarwood’s fast bowling was excellent, giving only three byes in the two innings.
