She will sail for Flcton,; Nelson', New Plymouth, and Manakan at 12 o'clock, to-night, ' . , , The schooner Ruby, Captain Dalton, arrived here from the White Rock yesterday: forenoon.: iShe landed and got on board her cargo all right, but when proceeding across Palliser Bay on- her return to port, she experienced a" fierce gale from the N.W.. which compelled the captain to take in every stitch of canvas, and the vessel was then driven down abreast of Waipapa, where a southerly wind found her, and brought her up to port. The p.s. Manawatn, which left here’on Friday night for Wanganui, with a heavy NW. wind blowing, on arriving off Sinclair Head found a very hard gale raging, the steamer being completely smothered up on several occasions by the tremendous sea running. Captain Harvey, seeing that it was useless to try and contend against the elements that night, headed the steamer for -Worser Bay, where she arrived at 2 o’clock on Saturday morning. At daylight the gale showed signs of breaking, but at noon it was blowing as hard as over. It was- therefore decided to return to port/ arriving at the wharf at 8 g,m.
