The Pacific mall Bteamer City of New York, Capt. Caveily, arrived here at 3 a. m. yesterday, with the European and American mails on board. It is expected that this steamer will be the last vessel of the Pacific Company to come down the coast She has arrived at the several ports of call between this and Sydney and - delivered the malls at them well np to contract time. She arrived at Auckland from Sydney via Kandavau at 8 a.m. on the 6th, having left the latter port on the 2nd Inst. She sailed from Auckland the same day at - 8.38 p.m., and arrived off Napier at 7 a,m. on the Sth ; sailed same day at 8.50 a m,, arriving , here as above. Fine weather was experienced throughout.She sailed for Lyttelton at 7.30 a.m. yesterday. The a.s Kiwi, Captain Campbell, arrived here from the East Coast yesterday afternoon at 5 30. She left Napier at S p.m. on the 3rd with a north-west wind, which lasted till 11 e'clook that night, when it suddenly shifted to the south and blew fresh, compelling the steamer to turn her tail to it, and run for Cape Kidnappers, where she arrived at 4 o'clock on the morning of the 4th. The wind then went into the east; and the vessel bod .to unit her anchorage at 9.30 a m., and same day proceeding down the coast, and arriving off Ponrere at 3 p.m. ‘Worked cargo both ways for three hours, when she sailed for Blackhead, arriving off there that same evening, and went in next morning. Commenced landing and taking in cargo, but the sea rolling In too heavy she had to leave the name afternoon, and stand on and off outside ail night till next morning, when a strong southerly wind with a heavy sea came on, and she was again compelled to leave Blackhead for Castlepoint, where she arrived at 8 a.m. on the Sth ; shipped there 130 halos wool, and sailed for this port at 7 o’clock in the afternoon with the wind fresh from the N.W., which on rounding Capo Pallicer Increased to a heavy gale, the Steamer being only kept tossing to the seas, making scarcely any-headway till. 11 a.m.. when the wind died away to a calm, and continued till arrival. ; The number of hales of wool collected by her on the coast Is 206. The Kiwi is advertised to sail for Castlepoint and Uriti to-day. . - The following cablegram news has been placed at the disposal of the Otago Times:— Tag Kopatai left •Glasgow on September 28th; the steamer Wanaka on October 8 : and the steamer Eotorua, from the same port. Glasgow, on October 19th. We hear that the Wanaka is coming out in charge of Captain Braddock, late master of the ship Countess of Klntore. A telegram states that a ship was signalled at Nelson at 7 o'clock last night, supposed to be the Howrah from London with immigrants. Strange to say the Howrah arrived at this port with • Immigrants exactly twelve months yesterday afternoon. The s.s. Wellington, from Picton, Nelson, New Plymouth, and Manakau will arrive here to-morrow, and sail for the South at 3 p.m. The s.s. Tul left Eoxton.at 2 a.m, yesterday, and arrived hero after a quick run of eight hours from the bar. * Experienced fine weathe', with northerly wind. She will eail for Kalkoura and Lyttelt m to-day. The p.s. Manawatn will sail for Wanganui at 11 to*day. The schooner Endeavor, which we reported as having sailed on Wednesday night at 12 o’clock, for Oamaru, brought up abreast of Evan’s Bey next morning. ■ . ■■■ , . , The schooner Bose of Eden, from Picton, arrived in port yesterday afternoon at 5 o’clock. The s.s. Napier took her departure for Foxton yesterday at 11 a. ra. , The fore-and-aft schooner Amaranth, from Onebungs, timber laden, arrived here yesterday morning. The Union Company’s s.s. Ladybird. Captain Jtndrew, arrived at the wharf yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock. She left Port Chalmers at 1 p.m. on the 7th. and arrived at Lyttelton after a 24 hours’ passage; left at 7 p m. on the Bth, anl arrived here as before stated. Experienced fine weather, with light head wind throughout the passage. She will sail for Picton, Nelson, New Plymouth, and Manakau at * ?he schooner Canterbury, from Pelorns Sound, and the ketch ftakl. from Otakl, arrived here yesterday.
