Melbourne. Socially and politically the last fortnight has been very dull' The Electoral Bill haring passed both Houses, the Harbor Trust Bill has been nightly considered. Melbourne is now crowded with strangers, and amongst the visitors are the Governors of ~ New South Wales and South Australia. For the next fortnight there will be a perfect round of entertainments. The Government have nearly negotiations for the purchase of the Hobson's ‘ Bay railway. Several new lines will be opened in the course of a few months, including the ■ line to the westward. (The - Railway Construction Bill will provide for an additional mileage to be undertaken from the loan just launched. The new loan will give £95 ss. net, the amount averaged having been £96 3s. 6d. Brandies are very high, 80s. 6d. has been paid for Hennessy’s case; bulk, Bs. Large sales in sugar, but prices are scarcely so firm ; ' one firm are holders. New Zealand oats, 3s. 6d. to 3a. 7d.; wheat, dull, 6s. sd.‘ to 6s. 6d.
