(pee press agenot.) Auckland, Friday. The Stella has arrived, and on landing Sir G. Grey was presented with an address of welcome by the Onehunga Town Board. A drenching rain prevented any demonstration. He was driven into town in a carriage provided by the reception committee. He promised a full exposition of his views at a public meeting in the theatre to night. Arrived : Orari, from London, with immigrants, all well. Geahamstown, Friday. At a meeting of friends and supporters of William Rowe, M-H.R., last night, it was decided to give him a banquet on his return from Wellington. Two men, Jones and Bedford by name, have been committed for trial on two charges of burglary. The charge was withdrawn against the third man, Napiee, Friday. The Corporation invite tenders for 115 debentures of £SO each at 7 per cent, interest per annum, payable half-yearly, and redeemable at par in seven years. The loan is secured on a special rate, and is to be expended in reclaiming the town swamp. Wanganui, Friday. The cattle show yesterday was a great success. The attendance was large, but occasional rain prevented many more being present. The horse exhibits were very good. Imported thoroughbreds—Sator, Ist prize ; Gladiator, 2nd. Elswick was also exhibited. Sator was also awarded the champion prize. Colonial thoroughbreds—Dead Shot, Ist prize. Mares, thoroughbred—Maid of Mist, Ist prize ; Sweetmeat, 2nd. Maid of Mist also took the champion prize. Draught, imported—Lofty,' Ist prize ; Lord Lome, 2nd. The champion prize was taken by Lofty. Draught, colonial bred —Albane and Prince of Canterbury were both awarded Ist prize ; President, 2nd. Prince of Canterbury took the Ist prize for three-year-olds. Draught mares—Nellie, Ist prize ; also the champion prize. Bulls, over three yearn— Duke of Hazelcote, Ist and champion prize. The exhibits of sheep, pigs,’ poultry, harness, and produce were numerous and good. Cheisxchdech, Friday. The following acceptances for the Metropolitan meeting were received last night:— "Free Handicap.—Maroro, Syrs., 6st. 8lh.; Pungawerewere, 4yrs., 7st. lllbs.; ; Titania, 3yrs., 6st. 51b.; Isaac Walton, 4yfs., 7at. 41b.; Ngaro, syrs., 7st. 61b.; Tadmor, syrs., 7st. lOlbs. Steeplechase Handicap.—-The Moose, 6yrs. list. 61bs.; Jack, syrs., 10st.; Tommy Dodd, aged, 12st. 7ibs.; Zealand, syrs., lOst. Race privileges, excepting the cards, were sold yesterday; total, £385. - We have had four agricultural shows this week, which were a great success. Dunedin, Friday. Nothing further has transpired between McLean and Macandrew. > The Good Templars holcl a monster demonstration on the 9th instant. The Otago Art ■ Society’s Exhibition opens to-day. The Political Association have deemed it inadvisable to hold another public meeting prior to the meeting of the convention. The new cranes imported by the Harbor Board are found to be perfectly worthless. Mr. R. Beetham, warden at Wakatipu, has been appointed to the Magistracy of Napier. The National Marine Insurance office, Adelaide, have paid over £SOO to the owners of the Czare witch. Over 100 Victorian shearers have arrived.
