THE BIRTHDAY SPORTS

TO TUB EDITOR OP THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sib, —I have to ask !your' indulgence, to reply to a letter signed “ Sportsman,”; which appears in your contemporary the Post this ' evening. He asks “why the names; ,o£' .the handicappers have not been , published?” My reply is, simply because it is >•' not usual for the names of the handicappers to be published until" the ; day the handicaps are • declared. “Sportsman” is quite wrong in asserting that it is “usual in all genuine ‘ sports.” I may state for his information that . I was secretary for the largest sports meeting ever held in .Australia, and the names of the handicappers 1 "were never advertised ; their names only appearing when the handicaps • ' were published • ; - I would ask “ Sportsman ” what grounds he ‘ has for assuming that two:handicappers have hot been appointed ? I may state, however, for his information, that there are two, and gentlemen who are well known and have had " some experience in that way in Wellington. If “Sportsman” and his “kina” are desirous of further information' on the subject of the birthday sports, I shall be happy to en--1 lighten him and them on their calling oh me at any time, as I have a strong objection to answer every belated and disinterested (1) per- * son’s effusions that appear in print signed anonymously.—l am, &c., Jno. Bryck, Hon. Sec. Birthday Sports. Wellington, November 1. ,
