• TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TlMfcSi Sir,— l observe a -letter in -your issue' of this morning iw to the dutiesbf the Docesan Synod. “ A'Synodsman”- states that the Syuod has'no more power.to organise'* temperance association than to start a cof operative. Store. I think he is entirely in-error, - Ho says tho-Synod exists for the purpdse: f bf‘- supj>Orting ; and exteindihg ? 'the Church. Tn' my'opinion, the l establishment .of a temperance-society-would do aa much—hay more—-towards-supporting and .extending the Ohdrch thahalmost any thing elseftndiak-to the power of,'the Synod to do it,--I would.ask where -is there anything • whicbcitber directly or 1 by ' implication" withholds - : such' -powers 1 But for the deterinined stand against a Church of -England' Temperance Society made by the president of'the' Synod; I believe the resolution in its favor would have been carried.' The General Synod meets in : - Nelson -in.
