CRICKET.
The cricket match between the teams of the Lex Club and Artillery Club came off| on Saturday afternoon, on the ,Basin Reserve. The ground was not in particularly good order for play, being heavy, and as will he seen the batsmen did not distinguish themselves by high scoring. Only two of the Artillery team managed double figures, Turner getting,ll!and Gascoine 13 ; while J. A. Salmon was the only member of the Lex team who scored over 10. He put together 15. The bowling, as will be seen from the analysis appended to, the scores, was very good, I. J. Salmon,in particular being successful in his play, and obtaining 7 wickets for 15 runs. The Lex team did not all go in the second innings, the match being decided on the first owing to want b£ time, but there is little doubt that if the second innings had been played out the Lex would have gained the victory all the same.
